If you are a die-hard Red Sox fan, what could be more perfect than getting married at Fenway Park? And on July 4th? Ashley has been a Red Sox fan all her life and she couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere but at the park. Patrick, who serves as a sergeant in the military, couldn’t have had a more fitting day to get married than on Independence Day. In fact, Ashley and Patrick had flown in from Kentucky and Seattle, where she lives and he is stationed, a few days prior to their wedding day. The convergence of all this made this the most extraordinary experience – an unforgettable Fenway Park wedding.
Everyone got ready at the Holiday Inn in Brookline. Ashley and her father had a limo pick them up, while the guys made a slow-hot,- full-of-stops, -couple-mile journey by foot to Fenway Park. The plan was to have all the friends and family at the park as soon as it was open for the game – a few hours prior to start. As soon as we got there, we inquired whether we could get on the field to take photos if possible – the staff did not confirm and said they would try.
When the guys arrived and all the guests were seated, Ashley and her father made their way from their suite to the ceremony site a few sections away. The bridal party awaited entry in the shadows of the passageway while the groomsmen were sun-drenched at the base of the seats. The ceremony was sweet, with personal vows exchanged. Once they kissed, the first to congratulate them with celebratory whoops were the Texas Rangers who were practicing on the field.
At that point, the staff had confirmed we could go to the field and gave everyone bracelets to wear, and we quickly were ushered downstairs and to the cordoned field where there was already a huge crowd taking photos. Top security chief with a guard dog who was working on the field pulled Ashley and Patrick aside and allowed them to walk to the pitcher’s mound to take the iconic photo facing home plate. The entire bridal party then joined Ashley and Patrick to walk toward the Green Monster. Ashley and Patrick were given access to go inside the Green Monster! The staff member who was navigating us and had worked there for seven years said this was unprecedented access and she had never done this for any other wedding couple.
With such a momentous start to the wedding, everyone excitedly proceeded to the suite to enjoy the July 4th pre-game festivities. On the way, dozens of random people congratulated the couple and thanked Patrick for his service. We were very honored to be able to document this Fenway Park wedding.
